Did Ali Advise the Prophet to Divorce Aisha During the Safwan Affair
:::note[Description]
Question:
During the Safwan affair, did Ali advise Prophet Muhammad to divorce Aisha to secure succession? - An analysis of the historical account of the Safwan incident, examining claims that Ali suggested Prophet Muhammad divorce Aisha, and its implications for succession debates. :::
Answer:
Remember that Ali Radhiallau anhu and Aisha Radhiallahuanha were among the best muslims of the islamic Ummah till the day of judgement, and they had always put Islamic interests above their personal interests.
Remember Aisha Rasdhiallahu anhu was chosen by Allah to be the wife of prophet saws. Now when a guardian searches wife for his son OR when a person searches wife for himself he looks into her qualities and character - So when Allah chose Aisha Radhiallahuanha as wife of prophet Muhammad saws then this is but understood that she was the epitome of what a muslim women and wife should be like.
Narrated By ‘Aisha: Allah’s Apostle said (to me), “You were shown to me twice in(my) dream. Behold, a man was carrying you in a silken piece of cloth and said to me, “She is your wife, so uncover her,’ and behold, it was you. I would then say (to myself), ‘If this is from Allah, then it must happen.’”[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 87, Hadith #139]
The Prophet also told her, Jibril came to him and showed him a picture of her on a piece of green silk and said, ‘She is your wife in this world and in the next world.’ Just before her wedding.
Similarly Ali Radhiallahu anhu was amongst the people to whom in this world itself the Allah mentioned in the Quran “that he is pleased with them” and he will go to jannah inshallah.
So these people were selfless who underwent lots of hardships for the sake of islam. They were the best example for muslim ummah whom Allah has CERTIFIED as being good example.
“The Prophet is closer to the believers than their ownselves, and his wives are as their mothers.” (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:6).
So the answer of your question is that:
-
Ali knew Muhammad’s favorite wife Aisha was influencing him to make her father Abu Bakr his successor. = FALSE ALLEGATION
-
Did Ali try to get rid of Aisha to ensure his succession? = FALSE ALLEGATION
-
During Safwan affair, did Hazrat Ali advice Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to divorce UmulMumineen Aisha (RA), to ensure his own succession? = FALSE ALLEGATION
Ali bin Abu Talib said (in backdrop of the safwan event), ‘O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Allah has no imposed restrictions on you, and there are many women other than she, yet you may ask the woman-servant who will tell you the truth.’
She was given the title “Siddiqa” due to this incident of which God Almighty testified to her honesty, trustworthiness and purity in Quran. Quran 24:11-19
& we also know that Ali radhiallahu anhu was NOT one of those involved in cheap rumor mongering.
So. to ascribe selfish motives to their actions and to allege actions which they never committed in the first place and to lay wild allegations against them is highly unfair and if a muslim believes in such a thing then his faith is DOUBTFUL.
Those who say things are both liars and slanderers.
Aisha R.A was free from such slanders and lies as confirmed in the Quran:
Verily those who brought forth the slander (against ‘Aishah) are a group among you. Consider it not a bad thing for you. Nay, it is good for you. Unto every man among them will be paid that which he had earned of the sin, and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be a great torment. (11). Why then, did not the believers, men and women, when you heard it (the slander), think good of their own people and say: “This (charge) is an obvious lie ?” (12) (Chapter 24, 11-12)
