Do Muslims Regret Muhammad’s Marriage to Aisha

Do Muslims wish Prophet Muhammad had not married the young Aisha? - Examining whether Muslims express regret over the Prophet’s marriage to Aisha at a young age, and how it is defended historically. :::

Answer:

Muslims are proud of their Prophet saws and consider him as an example and role model. Though marriage happened at 6 yrs it was not consummated until she was mature enough

Whereas in today’s time there is age limit in marriage (which is unscientific) which varies from country to country - in Islam the girls maturity is the criteria for marriage which is more scientific basis for deciding the marriageable age.

“Al-Dawudi said: “And Aishah’s body had been matured. [i.e. reached ‘good Youthfulness’ (Shabaaban husna)] – may Allah be pleased with her“ (“Sharh al-Nawawi” 9/207 [Explanation of Sahih Muslim]).

Aisha Radhiallahu anha loved respected and honoured the prophet saws. It was Allah who chose Aisha Radhiallahu anha as the wife of prophet saws. Her father respected prophet saws a lot and was very happy with & approved of the marriage. The society was very happy with their marriage. Prophet saws breathed his last on the lap of mother Aisha Radhiallahu anha. After marriage she grew up to become a women of great character, knowledge and wisdom and after the death of prophet saws many people used to refer to her to gain knowledge about Islam.

So when Aisha R.A & her father were happy with the marriage and prophet saws was happy with the marriage the society was happy with the marriage then why should anyone be having pain in his stomach ?

I think the better question to ask would be whether you wish that your great great grand fathers had not married 7 yr old girls as was legal age for marriage in 1800’s in the US and also whether your parents or grand parents were products of child marriage.

Professor of Sociology Anthony Joseph Paul Cortese says that a 50 year old man being with a girl under 10 (being intimate) Under United States law was legal until the mid 1960s,

“In 1962, the American Law Institute recommended that the legal age of consent to sex- that is, the age below which sex is defined as statutory rape- be dropped in every state to age 10 (Katchadourian and Lund 1972: 439). In fact, until the mid 1960s, the legal age of consent in Delaware was 7 (Kling, 1965: 216).
